2 Killed in Deadly Car Race in Albuquerque

Around 8p.m. on Sunday April 21, witnesses saw two drivers racing each other and speeding down Central Avenue. At the intersection of Central Avenue and Louisiana Boulevard, one car slammed into the sidewalk followed by several trees. According to the Albuquerque Police Department, the white car that crashed was carrying a total of five passengers. The driver of the white vehicle, 21-year-old Andres Quintana, survived and is now at University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition. Two other passengers survived but 18-year-old Jessica Herdandez and 20-year-old Jorge Cano were not as lucky. Hernandez died once she reached the hospital and Cano was ejected at the moment of impact and died at the scene of the accident.

Out of the other two passengers who survived, one is still in critical condition and the other only received minor injuries and is expected to fully recover. Luckily there were no pedestrians or bystanders injured during the car chase. If the driver survives however, he could be facing vehicular homicide and reckless driving charges. There is an ongoing investigation that will be looking further into the cause of the incident.
